Maya in Sanskrit means creation; whatever the mind can envision, it can create.

Maya Boutique opened in early 2006, and our wholesale organic textiles studio came into being in 2007. Since then, our boutique has evolved to include home décor. We are very excited to be working on our new bedding line, which will be available in early 2008.

After a career in the corporate world, Najma Martens found herself seeking creative fulfillment. Upon travelling to India, she fell in love with the country’s creativity and tradition of artisanship, particularly its textiles. Maya initially came into being to showcase well-made, handcrafted products and textiles of India.

social responsibility

An integral part of Maya’s business model is to donate 10% of our net profits back to children and women’s programs in India.  Maya endeavours to work with family-owned businesses in India and strives to be ethical in all its business dealings. Maya subscribes to the concepts of fair trade and is embracing a model of sustainable textile production
